Efficient One-pot Multifunctionalization of Alkynes en Route to α- Alkoxyketones, α-Thioketones and α-Thio Thioketals using an Umpolung Strategy

N-alkenoxypyridinium salts, generated from the corresponding activated alkynes using a gold(I) catalyst, showed unconventional umpolung activity. This umpolung strategy not only offers highly valuable and unprecedented alternatives for the synthesis of various α-alkoxyketones, α-thioketones and α-thio thioketals, but also has the potential of revolutionizing the enolate umpolung chemistry.
