Effect of Extended Conjugation of N-Heterocyclic Carbene-Based Sensitizers on the Performance of Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells

We demonstrated successfully the first application of fused extended aromatic conjugation system in the ancillary ligands of carbene-based ruthenium complexes. As a consequence, the highest electron lifetime, the longest electron diffusion length and thus improved Jsc for phenanthroimidazole-fused ring conjugated CB108 sensitized DSSC, when compared to benzimidazole-fused ring conjugated system (CBTR) as well as N719, was achieved resulting in enhancement of (9.89%) overall conversion efficiency.
