Welcome to the 3rd episode of ‘ Academic Venture Building ’, Researcher Live’s new discussion event series on entrepreneurial topics. In partnership with Blenheim Chalcot, UK’s leading venture builder , we invite high profile experts for each topic and tackle burning questions surrounding the process of launching and scaling an academic venture.

One of the first building blocks for any new academic venture is understanding the potential market size or impact for a new technology or product. In this episode we discuss with leading investor and advisers the approaches and considerations when assessing and validating the true market opportunity for a proposed new business.

Topics to be covered:

  1. Market Sizing: How to approach market potential and scale of opportunity as well as some common mistakes entrepreneurs make in their initial approach.

  2. New Markets: How to assess market potential for a new product or services where there is minimal data available

  3. Business Model Considerations: Further factors considered by VCs and investors in early-stage academic ventures
