A series of triarylboron-functionalized Pt(II) dinuclear complexes using a photoactive bis(4-pyridyl)ethylene (bpe) bridging unit has been found to display cis- and trans-isomerism in a crystal state and in solution. Light can be used to drive the cis- and trans-isomerization process with the trans-isomer being the dominant species in solution.
