Novel bis-azoaromatic ligands have been synthesized by juxtaposing electron-deficient azo and pyridine moieties. These are employed as proradical templates to furnish a very weakly coupled stable open-shell ligand-centered diradiral (LCDR) and persistent monoradical complexes with a diamagnetic Rh(III) center. The radical anion form of the coordinated ligands has been authenticated by means of structural, electrochemical, spectral, and magnetic studies.
