TReactivity studies on phosphorus-chalcogen heterocycles (P2Ch2; Ch = S, Se) are presented that show ring expansion from the 4-membered rings to larger 6-membered (RPCh)3 rings. These observations are supported by density functional theory calculations that suggest the reactions involve a phosphinidene chalcogenide intermediate. The reactivity of (RPCh)n rings with coinage metals is also investigated that results in ring expansion and metal coordination.
