Researcher Live presents its very own mini-series of live events focused on scientific achievements in Agriculture! In this series, we have invited experts to discuss some of the recent advancements in agricultural research. Join us on the 29th March at 9am GMT for the second episode in this series, featuring  Adeel Javaid (Founder, Product Architect & CEO at 1ID).

The need to boost farm productivity has become critical due to the exponential growth of the  worldwide population, limited agricultural lands, and the depletion of precious natural resources. According to FAO the world will need to produce 70% more food in 2050. A scarcity of natural  resources like fresh water and arable land, as well as falling production patterns in major basic crops,  have worsened the problem. Another source of concern for the farming business is the changing  structure of agricultural labour. Furthermore, in the majority of countries, agricultural labour has  dropped.

The use of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions in farming techniques has been accelerated as a result of the shrinking  agricultural workforce, which has resulted in a decrease in the demand for farm labour. Farmers can use IoT technologies to help bridge the supply-demand gap by ensuring excellent yields, profitability,  and environmental preservation. IoT can ensure most efficient use of resources in order to increase  agricultural yields while minimising operating costs. The Internet of Things in agriculture might include specialised equipment, wireless connectivity, software, and IT services.

Smart farming can help growers and farmers to reduce waste and boost production in a variety of  ways, including the quantity of fertiliser used, the number of trips made by farm vehicles, and the  efficient use of resources like water and power. Sensors could be used to monitor the crop field and  automate the irrigation system in IoT smart farming solutions. This data can be utilised to monitor  overall crop health, as well as personnel performance and equipment efficiency. Improved product  distribution planning could be made possible by the capacity to estimate production output.

In this session we will talk about the ways in which IoT can help increase crop yield while reducing the  waste and scarcity of water resources. We will particularly discuss smart irrigation and precision  agriculture.
