The selenium-containing ligand K[Tnse] with a [BSe3] donor set has been synthesized, leading to novel cobalt and nickel metallaboratrane complexes with selenium donor atoms. Axial ligands trans to boron are labile toward substitution, leading to chloride, azide, or cationic compounds. The electronic properties were investigated using density functional theory calculations.
