Synthesis and Crystal Structures of Volatile Neptunium(IV) β-Diketonates

Four neptunium(IV) β-diketonate chelates were synthesized. Common synthetic procedures of Np(IV) organometallic use NpCl4 as a starting material of tetravalent Np. Here, controlled potential electrolysis was used to control Np to the tetravalent state. The four β-diketonate chelates were characterized with FTIR spectroscopy and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The four β-diketonate chelates all were found, by use of thermogravimetric analysis, to volatilize in the range of 184−205° C.
