Prof Emma Archer, Editor-in-Chief of PLOS Climate and Associate Professor in Geography and Environmental Studies at the University of Pretoria
Emma Archer is an Associate Professor in Geography and Environmental Studies at the University of Pretoria, teaching in the areas of climate and managed ecosystems. Her research focus is largely on drylands, with experience throughout the SADC region and on the continent. Her two main study sites are the southern Waterberg, Limpopo Province; and the eastern Karoo; in South Africa. She is active in international assessments, including work on certain of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) assessments, on GEO-6, on the IUFRO Forests and Water assessment, as well as the joint IPBES/IPCC report to be released in mid-2021.

Dr Jamie Males, Executive Editor of PLOS Climate
Jamie received a BA in Biological Sciences from the University of Oxford, where he developed a fascination with plant ecophysiology, before undertaking a PhD in Plant Sciences at the University of Cambridge. His doctoral research focused on the physiological drivers of climatic niches in tropical plants. He has performed fieldwork in the Caribbean, Central America, Mexico, and Australia, and has participated in a range of science education and outreach initiatives. Through interacting with researchers in a wide range of countries and contexts, Jamie developed a keen interest in Open Access and Open Science, leading him to join PLOS in June 2017.

Prof John Bruno, University of North Carolina
Dr John Bruno is a marine ecologist and Professor in the Department of Biology at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His research is focused on marine biodiversity and macroecology, coral reef ecology and conservation, and the impacts of climate change on marine ecosystems. He earned his Ph.D. from Brown University in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and was a postdoctoral fellow at Cornell University in disease ecology. His lab group primarily works in the Galápagos and the Caribbean – including Belize, the Bahamas, and Cuba.
