Join us at 8.30am GMT/9.30am BST/10.30 CEST on 8th June. In this Researcher Live event, Nikoline Borgermann and Jeroen Dobbelaere will share with us the main points from the article: "Preaching water while drinking wine: Why universities must boost climate action now" written by Nikoline Borgermann, Alice Schmidt, and Jeroen Dobbelaere.

Climate change is the greatest challenge of our time, and drastic climate action is needed urgently across industries and sectors to mitigate the worst of it. Universities have played a central role in generating the wide and deep evidence on climate change that exists today, but the majority of universities are unfortunately failing to address and reduce their own contribution to climate change, and they are thus failing to meet the Paris agreement targets suggested by their very own scientists. In other words, they are preaching water while drinking wine.

During the event, you will get to know:

• What does the international university landscape look like in terms of climate targets and action?

• What are the biggest obstacles to rendering universities sustainable?

• What needs to happen to boost university climate action now?

You will have the opportunity to ask questions, give comments, and discuss with Nikoline and Jeroen.

Dr Nikoline Borgermann, Sustainable Research Consultant at Ava SustainNikoline Borgermann is a biochemist by training and an environmentalist by heart! Nikoline studied biochemistry in Denmark and Germany (Berlin), and she did a Ph.D. at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research (CPR) in Copenhagen where she studied genomic stability. She also founded the local green task force, CPR Goes Green, which is a grassroots movement that promotes sustainability at the center. After a short postdoc, Nikoline left academia to work as an independent, value-driven green lab consultant. She now helps public research institutions and private companies reduce the environmental impact and carbon footprint of their laboratories.
