What are we going to talk about in this episode?

 

The talk will mainly centre around current strategies to overcome the barriers that have emerged for treating solid tumours with immunotherapies, in particular adoptive cell transfer.

Ben started working on CAR T-cells during his MSc project in Dr. Martin Pules' Lab. He then worked with Dr. Pule on BCMA-targeted CARs for treating myeloma and was partially involved in developing a spin-out company, Autolus. He then moved to Dr. John Maher's lab at King's College London where he focused more on CARs for treating solid-tumours and gained experience in gamma-delta T-cells. He completed his PhD with Dr. Maher on improving CAR T-cell design for treating Head and Neck Cancer and Glioblastoma.

During his PhD he was also involved in spinning out a company from Dr. Maher's lab, Leucid Bio. He then moved to Dr. Laura Donovan's lab as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institute of Child Health at UCL where he currently works on developing CAR T-cells for treating medulloblastoma, as well as investigating the underlying biology behind tumours that become resistant to treatment.
