Sensing the texture of imaging, a new biomarker of polycystic kidney disease

In autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease, total kidney volume and age can identify patients with progressive disease. Texture analysis of magnetic resonance imaging that computerizes and extracts differences in signals that we cannot sense visually is now demonstrated as a significant prognostic biomarker for the progression of renal decline in autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease. Image analysis holds promise for providing a new dimension for the management of autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease.
