[Mn(2-methylimidazolate)2] (Mn-ZIF-8) was synthesized from [Mn(BH4)2·3THF]·NaBH4 under an Ar atmosphere. The crystal structure was solved by Rietveld analysis and contains rare Mn2+-4N tetrahedral geometry. Mn-ZIF-8 shows 20% larger amounts of N2 gas uptake compared with [Zn(2-methylimidazolate)2] (Zn-ZIF-8) because of the larger pore volume constructed with Mn2+. Formation of the framework is accompanied by H2 generation as a byproduct, which enhances the construction of Mn-ZIF-8.
