The field of borylation chemistry has expanded greatly in recent years. A cornerstone of this expansion has been tris(pentafluorophenyl)borane (BCF), which has shown remarkably diverse applications; however, it is beginning to be eclipsed in certain reactions. This review will explore these early developments, examining BCF and beyond.
