We have synthesized isophosphindolylium species based on bis(N-heterocyclic olefin) ligands, which are fully characterized. An X-ray diffraction analysis and density functional theory study suggests the aromatic property of the PC4 five-membered ring, and the nucleophilic character of the P center was confirmed by the reaction with CuCl to afford a copper phosphenium complex.
