Metallic copper, zinc, and cobalt in 1-methylimidazole (MeIm) react with ambient O2 and CO2 to yield molecular Cu(CO3)(MeIm)3 and polymeric Zn(CO3)(MeIm)2[middle dot]2H2O and Co(CO3)(MeIm)2[middle dot]2H2O.
