Organometallic π-tweezers and 1,1′-bis(diphenylphosphanyl)ferrocene as bidentate chelating ligands for the synthesis of heteromultimetallic compounds

This mini-review describes consecutive multi-step synthetic methodologies to prepare heteromultimetallic organometallic compounds featuring between five and eight different transition metals including Ti, Cr, Mo, Re, Fe, Ru, Os, Pt, Cu, Ag and Au. As connecting units between the respective metal atoms carbon-rich π-conjugated connectivities, such as 1,3,5-(C C)3 -C6 H3 , 1-PPh2 -3,5-(C C)2 -C6 H3 , 1-PPh2 -4-(C C)-C6 H4 , 4-C C-py, 5-C C-2,2′-bpy (bpy = bipyridine, py = pyridine) were applied.
