Efficient Capture and Effective Sensing of Cr2O72– from Water Using a Zirconium Metal–Organic Framework

A series of water-stable and ecofriendly metal−organic frameworks (MOFs) were assessed for their ability to adsorb and sequestrate highly toxic Cr2O72− from aqueous solutions. Among the tested MOFs, NU-1000 shows a unique material combining both efficient sorption (with an equilibrium time of less than 3 min) and exceptional luminescent sensing of Cr2O72− (with a low detection limit of 1.8 μM and a wide linear range of 1.8−340 μM) in aqueous media.
