Studying the corrosion inhibition of some prepared nonionic surfactants based on 3-(4-hydroxyphenyl) propanoic acid and estimating the influence of silver nanoparticles on the surface parameters
Different nonionic surfactants derived from hydroxyphenyl propionic acid have been synthesized (HTOPD, HTOPT and HTOPH) and their vital role in the preparation process of silver nanoparticles has been assured, using transmission electron microscope, UV–Vis Spectroscopy and dynamic light scattering. The surface tension experiment has been used for studying the impact of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) on the surface and thermodynamic of the synthesized nonionic surfactants in liquid solution. The leverage of the synthesized nonionic surfactant on the size distribution and stability of the prepared AgNPs has been scrutinized. The synthesized HTOPD, HTOPT and HTOPH nonionic surfactants showed perfect inhibition efficiency against steel corrosion in 0.5M HCl. The results referred that the inhibition efficiency is directly proportionally to the hydrophobic chain length of HTOPD, HTOPT and HTOPH surfactant. The surfactant HTOPH has the maximum inhibition at all tested temperatures. The tafel curves refer that the HTOPD, HTOPT and HTOPH surfactants behave as mixed type inhibitors. The results predict increasing the thickness of the adsorbed layer from HTOPD, HTOPT and HTOPH surfactants as a result of decreasing C dl values (double layer capacitance). The synthesized HTOPD, HTOPT and HTOPH inhibitors obey Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Furthermore, silver nanohybrid is more antimicrobial compared to HTOPD, HTOPT and HTOPH nonionic surfactant alone.
