Molecular engineering of functional hyper-crosslinker offers an effective strategy to design the stimuli-responsive soft materials. The picture represents several types of stimuli-responsive polymers, whose properties are controlled by the reversible changes of active hyper-crosslinkers in the networks. Incorporation of hyper-crosslinkers in a network could produce different architectures and lead to unexpected properties. For more details, see the Concept article by B. Xu et al. on page 15844 ff.
