Unsymmetrical diaryliodonium salts participate in a wide range of metal-free transformations that involve λ3-iodanes, λ3-iodane radical anions, aryl radicals, and arynes. Despite the diversity of these reactive intermediates, general trends for aryl transfer selectivity have been organized on the basis of electronic and steric effects of the iodonium reagent's aryl groups.
