Stochastic Nucleation of Polymorphs: Experimental Evidence and Mathematical Modeling

On the basis of several experiments, and building upon previous theoretical work, we develop a stochastic model of primary nucleation from solution for a compound with an arbitrary number of polymorphs. Analyzing the behavior predicted by the model, we show that the nucleation probability depends on an apparent nucleation rate, given by the sum of the individual rates of all polymorphs at the conditions at which the system is operated.
