Cover Picture: Cyclotides: Overview and Biotechnological Applications (ChemBioChem 14/2017)
Andrew Gould, Julio A. Camarero
The cover picture shows a cyclotide, a globular microprotein with a unique head-to-tail cyclized backbone that is stabilized by three disulfide bonds forming a cystine-knot motif. The high stability and sequence tolerance of this molecular scaffold have made it an excellent framework for the design of novel peptide-based therapeutics and bioimaging tools. In their article, the authors provide an overview of the biotechnological applications of these interesting microproteins. Cover art produced by Isaac Mora.
