Nickel-cobalt mixed phosphides encapsulated into nitrogen-doped carbon nanocones have been successfully prepared through a facile ammonia-etching method followed by phosphidation treatment, which exhibit high electrocatalytic activity and excellent stability toward the hydrogen evolution reaction in both acidic and alkaline solutions.
