Stabilization of Lithium Transition Metal Silicates in the Olivine Structure

We present a combined theoretical and experimental investigation on transition metal substitution in the LiIn(Sc)SiO4 olivine structure, which is a potential Li-ion battery cathode material. A high degree of cation disorder, match of cation sizes, and formation of a solid solution series favor substitution to form LixInyCo(2-x-y)SiO4.
