A novel water and hydroxyl-extended one-dimensional dysprosium(III) chain was hydrothermally generated, exhibiting effective spin-reversal energy barrier of 88.7 K and favorable intrachain ferromagnetic coupling. The high effective energy barrier of the dysprosium(III) chain is resulting from the collaborate contributions of the intrachain ferromagnetic coupling and the Ising-like anisotropy of the Dy(III) ion, in which the latter is more predominant.
