A new family of gem-dinitromethylated and fluorodinitromethylated energetic compounds based on 5,5’-dinitro-3,3’-bis-1,2,4-triazole (DNBT) shows high energy density, good thermal stability, and excellent detonation properties. The proposed strategy of introducing gem-dinitromethyl and fluorodinitromethyl groups into DNBT frameworks demonstrates a great promise for developing new-generation high-energy-density materials (HEDMs) with high-performing detonation level and low sensitivity.
