Health care policy provides the vision for the future and includes the decisions, plans, and actions needed to achieve specific health care outcomes (World Health Organization, 2018). Baccalaureate-prepared nurses have a professional responsibility to influence health care policy by engaging in the political process and advocating for patients, families, and communities and, when necessary, effecting changes to existing policy (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2008).
