Chemically synthesized single crystal β-Sn nanorods (NRs) which grew along the [100] with low surface energy {200} facets were formed due to the effect of both temperature and viscosity, which greatly affect both the atom mobility and nucleation rate. Slower atom mobility and nucleation rate produce higher aspect ratio NRs due to preferential attachment of atoms on high surface energy planes.
