Mol. Nutr. Food Res. 2018, 62, 1700621.DOI: 10.1002/mnfr.201700621Aberrant Hh signaling can be regulated directly or indirectly by natural and dietary sources. Key Hh signaling mediators include Ptch, Smo, Gli and SuFu. In the presence of Hh ligands (HhN), the receptor Patched (Ptch) releases Smoothened (Smo) receptor which results in the activation of transcription factor Gli (Gli-A) to increase the expression of genes GLI1, CCND1, SNAI1, VEGF, BMP4 and others.
