A novel tellurniobate species, [H2Te2Nb24O72]14−, was prepared that can be seen as a niobium cage containing two pyramidal {TeO3} groups. Alternatively, six Nb atoms are sandwiched between two {TeNb9}. This represents the largest telluroniobate aggreate and the first hexaniobate sandwich-type polyoxometalate. Furthermore, this compound exhibits activity for the decolorization of basic fuchsin.
