Coupling between Molecular Mobility and Kinetics of Crystal Growth in a Hydrogen-Bonded Liquid

Coupling between Molecular Mobility and Kinetics of Crystal Growth in a Hydrogen-Bonded Liquid
Alejandro Sanz, Kristine Niss
We investigate the correlation between mobility and kinetics of crystal growth in supercooled glycerol by dielectric spectroscopy, revealing a strong coupling between self-diffusion coefficient and crystal growth time. Our results are consistent with the transformation of liquid glycerol into the standard orthorhombic crystalline state, and we do not find any evidence suggesting that it transforms into a peculiar solid phase with distinct structural or mechanical properties.
