1,2-Boyl migration of N-boryl N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) was proposed to involve the generation of two unusual radicals, namely, a Li+ coordinated NHC radical and diarylboryl radial. The existence and the identity of the radical were investigated with spin trapping experiments. Interestingly, these two radicals seem to be stable enough to escape solvent cages and recombine intermolecularly. Besides, the coordination of Li+ cation was found to be critical for the stability of the NHC radical.
