Ruthenium-hydride mediated unsymmetrical cleavage of benzofuroxan led to the intermediate hydrogen bonded monodentate 2-nitroanilido in 1, which however transformed to bidentate 2-nitroanilido in 2 with k/s−1 of 2.633 × 10−5 at 298 K (R = H) and followed an interchange associative (Ia) pathway.
