Synthesis and properties of ortho-carborane-appended 4-amino-phthalimide and its epoxy resin

Synthesis and properties of ortho-carborane-appended 4-amino-phthalimide and its epoxy resin
A novel o-carborane derivative incorporating 4-amino-phthalimide as fluorophore group 1,2-bis(4-amino-phthalimidomethyl)-1,2-dicarba–closo-dodecaborane has been successfully synthesized and characterized. The new compound is found to emit green light. Incorporation of o-carborane cluster into the fluorophore leads to a small bathochromic shift of λ abs and λ em and a slight enhancement of quantum yield. The cross-linked polymer bearing o-carborane cage is prepared based on heat-curing reaction of the o-carborane appended 4-amino-phthalimide with epoxy resin. The polymer exhibits yellow-green emission property and excellent thermal stability.
