A unique selective crystallization system where tetravalent f elements Ce and Th are exclusively trapped into the crystal, significantly precluding incorporation of trivalent rare earth elements. This process further gives rise to a highly efficient and environmental friendly strategy for the decontamination of thorium from REE ores.
