Two new molecular hexagons were synthesized using a new organometallic acceptor clip [bearing two platinum(II) centers] and neutral donor ligands via a coordination-driven self-assembly protocol. Macrocycles are unique examples of [2 + 2] ensembles that are hexagonal in shape. Their construction requires the assembly of only four subunits. The cytotoxicity of platinum(II)-based macrocycles was studied using various cancer cell lines, and the results were compared with those of cisplatin.
