A family of highly crystalline and hexagonal-shaped CoAl-LDHs with increasing basal spaces has been synthesized in order to investigate the role exerted by the dipolar interactions in their overall magnetic behavior. Experimental and theoretical studies reveal that the main factor governing the dipolar interaction between magnetic layers is the spin correlation size, which, in the limit case, is related to the lateral dimension of the layer, rather than the interlayer distance.
