Axial Ligand Field in D4d Coordination Symmetry: Magnetic Relaxation of Dy SMMs Perturbed by Counteranions

An axial ligand field with short Dy−Osali distance and less π−π stacking is found in closely related dysprosium compounds with discriminative counteranions, where the metal in a square-antiprismatic geometry suppresses quantum tunneling and enhances the magnetic relaxation.
