Metalation and Selective Oxidation of Diphenyl-23-oxa-, -thia-, and -selena-21-carbaporphyrins

Metalation and Selective Oxidation of Diphenyl-23-oxa-, -thia-, and -selena-21-carbaporphyrins
Timothy D. Lash, Gregory M. Ferrence
The formation of organometallic derivatives for a series of heterocarbaporphyrins has been investigated. Oxa-, thia-, and selenacarbaporphyrins reacted with palladium(II) acetate in acetonitrile to give palladium(II) derivatives, but only the oxacarba- and thiacarbaporphyrins afforded nickel(II) complexes. The nickel(II) derivatives were generated in good yields when the reactions were performed in refluxing N,N-dimethylformamide under nitrogen, but in the presence of air, an unexpected oxidation took place to give heterooxycarbaporphyrins.
