Increasing the Open-Circuit Voltage of Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells via Metal-Ion Coordination
Kenneth Hanson, Omotola O. Ogunsolu, Jamie C. Wang
Metal-ion coordination is shown to increase the open-circuit voltage in dye-sensitized solar cells by slowing interfacial recombination relative to the uncoordinated dye. The increase in Voc correlates with the charge of the coordinated metal ion (MIV → MIII → MII) presumably due to electrostatic interactions between the metal cation and I and I3 mediator ions.
