The brominated sesquiterpene aplydactone has been synthesized by a C−H functionalization strategy. In their Communication (DOI: 10.1002/anie.201703803), Y. Zhang and co-workers demonstrate that conformation fine-tuning supported by calculations is key to the success of the C−H insertion. The late-stage C−H functionalization and HAT hydrogenation enabled a concise protecting-group-free approach to aplydactone.
