Screening for pre-eclampsia in the first trimester: what do we still need to know before starting?

Federico Prefumo, Antonio Farina
In the last years, many papers reported model building and validation and studies of first trimester pre-eclampsia (PE) screening algorithms 1–4. They basically offer a multivariable panel of predictors and some equations able to estimate the a posteriori risk for different phenotypes of PE, including early and late PE. The predictors include a set of “maternal factors” and a step by step addition of uterine artery pulsatility index (Ut-A PI), maternal mean arterial pressure (MAP) and biochemical markers.
