Carbon monoxide capture by carbanion-functionalized ionic liquids is described by D.-J. Tao, S. Dai, and co-workers in their Communication (DOI: 10.1002/anie.201701919). The ionic liquids can absorb CO efficiently because of their supernucleophilicity. A very high absorption capacity for CO (up to 0.046 mol mol−1) was achieved under ambient conditions through the C-site chemical interaction between the carbanion and CO.
