Preoperative Hemostatic Assessment: A New and Simple Bleeding Questionnaire

(Abstracted from Can J Anaesth, 63(9):1007–1015, 2016) The purpose of this investigation is to assess the effectiveness of the 7-item HEMSTOP (Hematoma, hEmorrhage, Menorrhagia, Surgery, Tooth extraction, Obstetrics, Parents) questionnaire in identifying bleeding disorders preoperatively. Unlike acquired blood disorders, inherited coagulation disorders and platelet dysfunctions are rare (1 in 40,000 patients without hemorrhagic symptoms).
