(BJOG. 2016;123(12):1900–1907) Depression affects approximately 10% of women during pregnancy and when untreated can lead to poor self-care. Untreated depression during pregnancy also increases a woman’s risk of postpartum depression, and there is an association between depression persisting into the postpartum period and impaired maternal-infant bonding.
