Commonly Used Versus Less Commonly Used Methods in the Loss of Resistance Technique for Identification of the Epidural Space: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

Corrêa, I., Kashiwagi, F.T., Agarwal, A., El Dib, R., Pereira, J.E., Carvalho, L.P.
(J Clin Anesth. 2017;38:41–51) The loss of resistance (LOR) technique is the most commonly used method for identification of the epidural space during epidural catheter placement. However, as there have been a variety of LOR methods introduced over the last 3 decades, there is no consensus on the most appropriate strategy. In this systematic review, the authors evaluated the efficacy and safety of commonly used methods versus less commonly used methods of LOR for identification of the epidural space.
