Transition-Metal-Free C–CN/C–H Cross-Coupling: Effect of Cyano Group

Transition-Metal-Free C–CN/C–H Cross-Coupling: Effect of Cyano Group

The first transition-metal-free C–CN/C–H cross-coupling involving simple aryl nitriles has been developed to prepare 2-arylated benzoxazoles under simple reaction conditions. A variety of functional groups was tolerated, and heteroaryl nitriles were also suitable substrates. Preliminary mechanistic studies indicated that the effect of cyano group as both a good activating group and a good leaving group led to the success of this transformation. This novel protocol would significantly implement the C–CN bond functionalization chemistry and enlarge the utilization of cyano group in organic synthesis.
