Cardiac adverse drug reactions of risperidone among psychiatric patients: A short term prospective study

Faten Amdouni, Emira Khelifa, Salma Longo, Zouhaier El Hechmi

Highlights

Following risperidone initiation, all ECG abnormalities were observed at the daily dose of two mg, 24 hours after initiation of treatment.

The occurrence of ECG abnormalities with risperidone was independent of classical cardiovascular risk factors (age, sex, smoking, sedentary lifestyle, weight, family history).

The subgroup with ECG abnormalities after risperidone initiation showed a trend towards a lower baseline white blood cells count (p = 0.052) and a lower level of triglycerides (p = 0.072) compared to control group.
